Skills for Growing:

Sample lesson plans are provided below. *The "Setting Goals for Service" lesson plan is an introductory excerpt from that unit, which is a guide that provides a more detailed description on how to plan and develop a project in the classroom.

To promote school-wide involvement, each unit also provides “Expanding Unit Themes in the School and Community” and “Applications Across the Curriculum” activities. A Drug Information Guide is included to provide teachers, students, and families with current information about harmful chemical substances and their effects. The student book, Changes and Challenges, provides information, activities, articles, and worksheets to help students understand the concepts presented in the curriculum and apply them in their own lives. Skills for Action:
The core curriculum is divided into four parts and the manual includes step-by-step instructions for conducting program sessions, and includes teacher resource sheets, student handouts, and assessment tools for each session. The number of class periods that may be required to teach each session is clearly indicated. Collectively the parts foster personal and social responsibility by engaging young people in identifying critical needs in the school and community, planning and carrying out service-learning activities to address these needs, and reflecting on what has been learned and achieved through service. Students create exhibits, presentations, portfolios, and other documentation to share with audiences outside the classroom, what they have experienced and learned. Sample lesson plans provided below.
