Lancaster, PA shares Lions Quest experience
Lori Shenk, Neff 6 Lions Quest teacher, from Manheim
Township School District, PA, recently shared her LQ experience, as well as
thoughts from the sixth grade students who enjoy the program. “Working with our local Lions clubs and Lions Quest has
been an inspiring experience. It is
such a privilege to see, on a daily basis, the Quest program impacting
students’ lives. I’ve seen students’ enthusiasm for life and their
high expectations for our class time together. I’ve seen, in spite of sobering world events, their hopeful
outlook for a future that brings good things. I’ve seen their bravery as they’ve put their opinions out on
the table for the rest of us to think about and to respond to. And I’ve seen them learn how to disagree
with an idea without verbally attacking the person who shared it. I’ve also seen them seek answers to
problems and conflicts in their own lives.
I’ve seen them bringing concerns for others to class. I’ve seen their fresh outlook on life --
the zest with which they are thinking about who they are and who they want to
become.” “It’s a privilege to work and
learn with Quest students. I’m thankful
that I have this small space of time in their lives, to support them and to
celebrate their successes as they make the transition from childhood to
adolescence. And I’m thankful for a
masterfully written curriculum that offers students the skills they need to
successfully navigate adolescence.” Neff 6 students have insightful comments as well:

topics
A Lions Quest regional workshop was held in Oak Brook, IL, on June 9th and 10tth. Participants from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Utah, visited the International Association of Lions Clubs office to participate. After overcoming a few “glitches” due to the stormy weekend weather, the workshop was a big success. Facilitator Ken Frazier received rave reviews from the K-8 teachers, counselors and administrators. The Lions Quest one-day staff development offerings are gaining popularity across the country as well! Service-Learning workshops were held at Rutgers University in New Jersey this past February and April for capacity audiences.
